Global Science Film Festival 2026

Short Films on Reproductive Justice

Cinema REX, Bern · REX 1
Screenings, followed by a discussion with filmmakers and researches.

The Global Science Film Festival brings art and science into conversation with contemporary social issues. In 2026, the festival takes place in Bern, Zurich and Basel. In Bern, the mLAB at the University of Bern’s Institute of Geography presents a compact festival edition featuring a short film programme and a discussion.

Held in conjunction with the University of Bern’s exhibition «Atlas of Reproduction – Babies, Borders, Geopolitics» at Kornhausforum Bern (until 25 October 2026), this year’s Bern edition of the festival explores the social, political and historical conditions that shape reproductive decisions.

The short films explore criminalised abortion and cross-border journeys to access medical care, suppressed family histories and adoption, as well as ideas of motherhood, breastfeeding and the unequal distribution of care work. The programme brings together diverse cinematic approaches, from fiction and dark humour to documentary and hybrid forms.
