Theatre of Transformation Workshop: Transforming Margins
Dr. Rama Mani is the Founder of Theatre of Transformation Academy, a non-profit association aiming at the champion of the emerging creative power of humanity to shape our shared future. Rama developed ‘Theatre of Transformation’ as a catalytic art form and transformative methodology, based on her 30 years of global and grassroots experience in peacebuilding, justice, strategic leadership and global governance.
In October 2021, Rama held a workshop at the Institute of Geography in Bern on “Transforming Margins: from Health Systems to a Healthy Planetary Society through the lens of the Theatre of Transformation Methodology”.
Starting from the public lecture the ensuing workshop took participants on a participatory and experiential journey through the four steps of the Theatre of Transformation Methodology developed at the University of Oxford’s Enacting Global Transformation Initiative. We explored in greater depth the transformative trajectories of the medical practitioners in the testimonies enacted in the colloquium. We saw how each of them transformed the margins they faced in their lives by ‘witnessing the reality’, ‘awakening new possibilities’, and ‘envisioning change’ in their health practices, and how, by doing so, they ‘enacted transformation’ in the health (system) of their societal environments. Applying the four steps of the methodology to their own lives and contexts, participants identified – and hopefully transcended and transformed – some of the margins that are relevant in each of their lives and contexts, with the collective aim of contributing to co-create a healthier civilisation and strengthened health system that supports collective health and well-being.
